Welcome to the Hall Collectors Bulletin BoardIf you would like to find a particular message/topic on this BB, try using the SEARCH option on the bottom of this page. If you have a picture you want to share, and you don't know how to post it, please e-mail it to: hallcollectors@hotmail.com, and I can post it for you. Please include any text you want posted as well. If you have a Gold Decorated teapot, with a 3 or 4 digit number on the bottom, you can look up what teapot you have, by clicking on the HOME PAGE link, then in the menu to the left, click on HALL CHINA INFO, and select TEAPOT ID CHART from the drop down menu. Then, just find the number on your teapot on the chart, and follow it to the left to find the name of the glaze color, and up to find the name of the shape. (FYI:not all teapots are on the chart... these are just the main Gold Decorated teapots)

Hi All...! It took me over 4 years, but I finally replaced an "oops!" piece. Quite a while ago, I was moving some Hall around to make room for something new. While doing this, I often set things on the floor... but sometimes, forget they're there... and kick them on my way back. That's what happened here. I gave a pretty good kick to something, and it slid on the floor and WHACKED into another piece. It cracked the bottom... and I could have KILLED myself. This is the replacement for the piece I damaged: It's the #268 Medallion or Colonial Mixing Bowl. I've been trying to put together a set of these for as long as I can remember. I'm OK with the ones in Hi-White, but the Chinese Red had eluded me. I only have 3 of them so far with the largest being the #628 at 9", the 7 1/2" and the 6". (in case anyone sees one I don't have yet...).

Hi Christine - I don't know a lot about selling Hall, but I have purchased almost my entire collection from buyers on Ebay & can tell you what I like to see from a buyer's perspective. Joanne & Bill H. & June & many others on the board maybe can help with advice on selling your Hall pieces. Also this web site has a For Sale section, which would be good to list your items on. Most of us look for a good deal in pricing, rarity of an item, quality & lack of damage. I love to see several good, clear pictures. For pricing, you can look at Whitmyer's 3rd Ed. Collectible Encyclopedia of Hall China - also the Barneby's book (available in the for sale section of this site) may have pricing on your items. . . If you can send pictures of your items, maybe Bill would post them, so we could all see them & then could give you an approximate value. Hope this helps a little.

Hello All, What fun it is to read the postings on this bulletin board and see pictures of the amazing collections! I live in central NJ and am consolidating some possessions including numerous pieces of Hall China. The items are blue with flowers and some pieces white with flowers. I also have two refrigerator pitchers and several others (pitchers of different styles). I would greatly appreciate any information you could share of how to sell these items. Thank you!

Happy Birthday, Bill! On my trip to Hall China Factory, they had these items on display. I know Stan is going to just drool over them, especially the Philly sugar and creamer. My camera battery died, so I only got these two photos, but there was also a huge tray and some other dishes.

I recently purchased two Hall China lamps. I would like to replace the lamp shades. Does anyone know where I can buy new lamp shades and also would like some history of the lamps. Louise Reitz
January 23 2012 - Omaha, NE
Bill, your resident Hall collector says:
Hi Louise! I'm not sure what info you need, but will give you what I know. The lamps were a joint venture between the lamp company and Hall. Hall made the china inserts, and the lamps were put together and sold by the lamp company. There are quite a few different lamps out there, and the only way to tell the ones Hall made, are if the paper label is still present. they were hardly ever marked Hall. You should feel free to purchase any lamp shade that you desire, as I doubt that you will be able to find the ones that originally came with the lamps. 50 or 60 years will be tough on a lamp shade. |

I have several Hall China pieces. I am wondering if I can use them to store leftovers, etc. I just want to make sure that they are safe to use. thanks for any help that you can give me. Carole

Bill, your resident Hall collector says:
Hi Carole! If you were wondering if Hall China is Lead-Free, then I can tell you that it is indeed 100% Lead-Free. Always has been, and for all I know, always will be. Hall China is still in production, and any company currently producing china for food service use, must follow strict EPA guidelines on Food Safe dishes.
My only word of warning, is if you happen to have a piece that has a DECAL decoration on it, where it would come in contact with the food, to not use the item for food STORAGE. The decals might contain heavy metals, and because they are fused to the surface, they may leach these metals into foods during storage. Use of these dishes for serving a meal, would be fine (imho) since the contact would be for such a short time. |

Hi All - I seldom have anything to add to identifying anything but I found that I have a 723 casserolette in stock green w/a very dirty lid & a smaller one that I think is a 721 (approx. 4.5 oz., 1.5" high), no lid in an elusive biegish/rosish color close to new tomato red but with the old mark. I have an old list that I printed out several years ago from this website that really comes in handy at times. Not much new here - very mild weather so far, very little snow, with only a few days in the teens or 20s. Think we'll have to bypass the Convention this year - Granddaughter Karen will be graduation from Akron U. on the 5th. Love to all, Bonnie

Hello April, I have that same dish as your small blue lidded dish -- but mine are green, (Emerald) in 2 different sizes, and have no lids. Yours is the first one I have seen like it. Mine have the old Hall in a circle mark and the smaller is marked 721. The other one is a bit bigger and is 72? (It's worn off). The blue one is adorable. I don't know a name for that shape, do you?

Update on the Special Teapot Joel is decorating for those who pre-ordered one last year. He will be decorating them in Blue Bouquet with Red-line detailing. They should be spectacular and highly prized! I will let everyone who ordered one know what the final cost is. As a special Raffle, Joel will create one Black Donut teapot with the Blue Bouquet decal and red-line.

Hi again! I had to buy this because it was so beautiful and inexpensive! It's a soup tureen minus the lid. The seller had it marked down from $58 to 35, and a best offer, so I offered $31. Free shipping too! She accepted and I am so happy! It's a neat size and will look so nice with food or candy in it! Thought I'd send you my Hall "store" picture. Great use for unwanted bookshelves! Now I just need to find a place to put the novels, reference books and cookbooks that are hogging space for more Hall!

Hi again! Had to show off my teeny lidded dish and my really neat trio of metal clad casseroles. I got the little blue one on eBay for about $4.00 and it's perfect! The metal clad were found at an antique sale. I got all three for $15.00!

Hi all, my "love affair" with the Radiance Mixing Bowls continues with this one: The Whitmyer's call this pattern "Green Poppy" although it doesn't look anything like a poppy to me, more like a wild rose, or maybe an apple blossom? It's the first example of this pattern that I've bought. I think it's rather nice, and only wish there were more of it out there, like maybe a Radiance Casserole???

Had a great trip to Hall today! I picked out the special piece for this year's convention - relating to Shirley's seminar on Colors it will be FOUR of the little square #1633 dishes they use as color tiles - in four different colors, of course! One of the four will have the convention logo.

Wow, I didn't realize how busy I've been since working full time, but I haven't been here is way too long! The Hall China Convention is coming up soon! I have not sent the registration info yet. I am meeting with Hall China today to discuss our convention piece. They wanted to wait until January this year due to contract negotiations. The dates are May 2 - 6 at the Columbus Embassy Suites. I will send the info. as soon as possible, but am shooting for the end of January. There are exciting things being planned!! Let me know if you want to receive the information packet, have a new email, etc.

In 1989 Mrs. Hall's Cookies, in San Pedro CA, was worth $1.6 MILLION, up from $155.000 in '84, no more recent reports of their worth or even if they are still in existence as a company. There are several search references to a Carla Hall, a Top Chef winner, who makes bite size cookies of several varieties, but that cookie jar doesn't seem to fit her style. I agree, it doesn't look like our Hall, but I guess we can't stop them from putting "Hall's Cookies" on a jar.

Hello again -- Bill was so kind to paste that email I sent him along with one of my photos. Thank you Bill! Just to clarify, after seeing Bill's questions back to me: 1. The bottom is unglazed and concave, NOT FLAT, and (underneath) the foot "angles" in to the bottom of the pot. It looks quite the same as the bottoms of my 2 smaller Chinese red Five Band mixing bowls! No mark though. 2. I am familiar with Universal and other potteries, and I don't think it is Universal. Aren't Universal's glazes so much glassier and smooth? This has that "art glaze look." But, if anyone is familiar with this little 3 1/4" tall piece, do chime in. It's glaze matches PERFECTLY, in shade and texture, my other Chinese red pieces, so I love it no matter what pottery produced it.....

Hello, Diane from Denver here. I haven't posted in a long time but I hope you do remember me. I have a question about a small pot I purchased this weekend, It is Chinese Red, which I have collected for many years, but is unmarked and not in Whitmyers book. You know how you can just "tell" when a piece is Hall (the glaze color and texture, the heft of the item, etc.)? This does seem like a Hall piece to me. Is anyone familiar with it? No lid, looks like a creamer. What do you think? Thank you so much for any help you can provide, and Happy New Year!

Hi Lorri! The quick answer to your question is no, not all teapots came with infusers. Not even all the pots that are commonly found with infusers ALWAYS came with an infuser. While having an infuser does tend to attract the die-hard collectors, if some pots don't have infusers they may still be considered a "complete" pot. I can only think of one common pot that should nearly always have an infuser, and that's the 6-cup McCormick. Most of the other pots were sold both with, and without infusers and some pots are darned hard to find with an infuser. The Aladdin for example, came in 3 styles. The oval opening, a 6-cup round opening, and a 7-cup wide body round opening, and each style of Aladdin could be ordered with, or without an infuser. (the lids for pots without an infuser, often won't fit inside an infuser... that's a good way to tell if your pot originally had an infuser, if of course you happen to have a sample of both pots. (grin) ) A list of pots that have been offered with infusers includes the Aladdin, Boston, Ceylonator, Dodecagon (came with a metal lid with attached tea ball) Edwards (again, with a metal lid and tea ball shaped infuser) Infuser/Percolator teapot (shape similar to a French) London Teabob, and the McCormick.
