Welcome
to the Hall Collectors Bulletin Board

If you would like to find a particular message/topic on this BB, try using the SEARCH option on the bottom of this page.

If you have a Gold Decorated teapot, with a 3 or 4 digit number on the bottom, you can look up what teapot you have, by clicking on the HOME PAGE link, then in the menu to the left, click on HALL CHINA INFO, and select TEAPOT ID CHART from the drop down menu. Then, just find the number on your teapot on the chart, and follow it to the left to find the name of the glaze color, and up to find the name of the shape.
(FYI:not all teapots are on the chart... these are just the main Gold Decorated teapots)

Donna, The Blue Blossom pattern can be found with and without the red trim. It's more common to find it WITH trim, but some pieces show up without trim just as often, such as the mixing bowls, and custards. Now, I don't know if the ones without trim were "mistakes" (they got out without anyone noticing...) or were over-stock that didn't get the final decoration, or maybe during it's production run they decided to not put the trim on, due to costs or what ever... but there are several patterns that are like this, where trim may or may not have been applied.

There is also the possibility that the trim has worn off, but with as delicate as the BB decal is, you would notice the wear/tear to the decals long before all the red trim was worn off.

The "double backstamp" is also common with items from this time frame. I don't know exactly why, but some patterns are almost ALL double stampped. For example, almost ALL of the Eggshell White with Red Trim have at least 2 markings... and the BB items that don't have a glazed bottom also can be found with this sort of markings. (usually if the bottom of the piece is glazed, you will only see the gold "kitchenware" backstamp.

Good morning!! I am not a huge collector of Hall - have many pieces from my grandmother who passed away in 1976 - but I purchased at an estate sale, 4 custard cups in the Blue Blossom pattern, all in great condition, but based on my Hall China book, the photos have a red rim on this pattern and my cups don't. Also, the bottom has a double stamp - black HALL with circle around it and gold HALL'S SUPERIOR QUALITY KITCHENWARE...any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - great website!!

Bill, I meant to tell you to go ahead and put those bowls in the dishwasher, I have 4 black cups which I wash in the dishwasher regularly and they have lost none of their gloss, inside or out.

Again, Bill, you are a very lucky devil, but I still love you.
I am not supposed to buy anything, just sell all I have, but the exceptions are PMG and RP. I have not checked to see if Granddaughter even still wants them, if she doesn't there are two others who might. It is really hard when you love something so much and don't know where it will end up, but I guess I should not care as once I am gone I should not care where these items end up, but those two patterns I do care.
I hope you are enjoying better weather than I am. You can almost wear the humidity here and my garden is suffering. Even watering it it does not want to grow.
Thanks, Bill, for your note, that was very sweet.

June Dear, I'm SO sorry... I completely forgot that you were a PMG collector!! If I had remembered I would have been a little bit more kind in my post... maybe given you an e-mail with a "heads up"... since it must have been a shock to come to the BB and see them... (grin)

I know EXACTLY how you feel tho... a Dear Fellow Hall Collector (who lives in the state of Texas!) Has a set of bowls similar to mine, but they have the RED POPPY decal on the inside!! ( at least he was kind enough to let me see them in person!!)

I wonder what the deal is with these colored exterior bowls...?? You don't see them all that often, I wonder who they were made for, and when?? Maybe they were an experiment??

Yes, the bottoms have the "Kitchenware" backstamp:

Bill with all the Pastel Morning Glory I have my heart is pumping raw, pure jealousy!!!!!
Are these bowls marked in any way? You don't state but I assume they were made by Hall. They are just beautiful, you LUCKY DEVIL. If you ever want to let them come live with me I would be most willing to give them a home. I know, NOT A CHANCE!!!!!!
Congrats and all that Jazz on a spectacular acquisition.

Bunny, I have more than enough bowls... (ha!) but darned if I use many of them. If you believe it, the bowls I use most often, are the metal bowls to my Kitchenaid mixers. (I have 2 mixers but that is another story entirely!) but I also have some PYREX bowls... (yes, Pyrex!) I don't have to worry, they have been put in the dishwasher hundreds of times, are faded, and scratched... and, well... I'm used to them. I see complete sets in shops/malls all the time, but I have the ugly ones that mom used... I saw this set of bowls, and the black outside, goes quite well in my kitchen... I thought they would look nice on a shelf. (and they will)

I'm not too worried about the black glaze, I have dishes that have been washed hundreds of times, and are still glossy and shiny.. (unlike Chinese Red, that gets flat and dull) it's the decal on the inside that I think will disappear if I use them too often.... and these are crisp and clear. So, who ever used them, took good care of them... and used them gently. So all these years later, I would hate to be the one to damage them. So, they'll join the other lovely bowls that just sit and look pretty. (grin) Which I guess, if you want to be particular.. IS using them. (in a way)

Bill, the 1091, '92 ' 93 & '94 mixing bowls will stand dishwashing much better than that black glaze. I use one or more of mine every day, but I doubt you can find 3 for under $25 !! I got a 2 gallon 1098 at convention and I haven't used it yet, but it looks very impressive on the counter. They are your bowls, if you want to use them, go ahead and enjoy them.

Well, you would have figured that after my Floral Sprig Ball Jug, that I would have had enough of the "floral" decals... but you would have been wrong!! Had to add another "floral" to the collection... but this one, is actually part of my MIXING BOWL collection!! And what a buy, under $25.

They are the "Pastel Morning Glory" (or Petunia if you ask me...) Thin Rim, Mixing Bowls with the Black Exterior and Hi-White interior.

I had every intention of these being my "every day" mixing bowls... but, I don't know if I'll be able to throw them in the dishwasher... and I'm not that good at "hand washing" things... so, maybe they'll just join the other interesting Thin Rim bowls I have.... sitting on a shelf. (that's probably what will happen!)

ARRY!!! Oh, my goodness.... It seems like yesterday that I was driving my "Barney Mobile" to a place called East Liverpool... getting lost, and um... (if Trish is reading this, again... I'M SORRY!) nearly killing a car full of people when taking an exit ramp too suddenly!! (ok, it wasn't really THAT bad---- I've done worse!)

That first Hall Haul sure was something!! (I think I still have heartburn from the hot sauce Marty "made" me try at the Hot Dog Shoppe!!)

Hi all, just thought that I would pop my head in and say hello! It has been a long time since I have posted but that does not mean that I don't think about you all or miss my good Hall Haulin' buddies. Life has just been super crazy the last couple of years. The kid is off to college in August..whew time just flies! XOX Arry

No, Mary, you haven't missed anything with regard to the calendar. I'm in the middle of a home improvement project & haven't really focussed on it yet. There will be a page or 2 from this year's Convention, but beyond that, ... Let me throw it open to the BB - what do you want to see highlighted in the 2011 calendar?

I am looking for a Hall China Room Service Ice Bowl #621 in black. If anyone has or knows of one please let me know. It measures 8" top diameter, 6" tall, and 6.5" bottom diameter. I found a brown one in Ontario, but really need the black to go with some other pieces.

Stewart, if there is an antique shop near you, you might check prices in one of the Hall reference books such as that by the Whitmyers. Or your local library might have one as well..... But as our Hall Guru reminds us, the value is really what someone would pay for the items now....so you might look up Hall Crocus on Ebay, and check completed auctions as well as current offerings. Crocus is a lovely pattern....one of all too many I have been buying for myself...

MaryLee: will we be having a Hall calendar again for 2011? Have I missed an announcement....?

I was not aware that this board / info site existed at the time I listed the teapot. After looking into the teapot more on my own, I came across this site and then decided to find out what I had as I didn't want to misrepresent an item. I have had a few people tell me that the 99.99 I was originally asking was NOT out of line.

I have a brown (looks like a boston style) teapot with gold around it. The stamp says Hall's China B L T 30... I can't seem to find any reference to this teapot. I got it from my great grandma, and would like to know what time frame it is from it is in great condition, other than the gold is a little warn. Any help is appreciated on where to look. Thank you.

Just for the record, the Blue Willow teapot (now at $69.99) was listed more than 4 days before the lister posted a question on this BB. Would have made more sense to get basic information here 1st.

That is the mark Chandra for after 1970 so it is not vintage. I have no idea of it's value.
